A Plague Tale: Innocence is a third-person action adventure with a slant on stealth.

The events of the game take place in medieval France, in which the plague is raging. There are two main characters - a 15-year-old girl Amitsia and her little brother Hugo. Children are persecuted by the Inquisition. During the game, Amitsia can give Hugo various errands and small tasks. The children join forces with other teenagers to escape from the persecutors and reveal the mystery of the plague.

The basis of the gameplay is stealthy advancement and the search for balance between three interconnected elements: light, soldiers of the Inquisition and packs of rats. If children move during the day, they will not be threatened by rats. However, they risk falling into the hands of the Inquisition. If you move at night, rats become the main danger. At the same time, in the dark, rats attack all people, including soldiers of the Inquisition. Children can use this feature to their advantage.

At the disposal of Amitsia and her brother are torches (they can be used to drive away rats), a slingshot for throwing stones and other improvised means.
